Become a Volunteer

Why join Easy Care Gardening as a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you will help provide an ‘easy care’ gardening service, helping support frail aged people and their carers stay in their own homes. An easy care garden is one that is safe and pleasurable, requires low maintenance and minimal upkeep and is achieved by the effective use of mulch and appropriate plants.

Volunteers maintain gardens but it is so much more: you’ll build relationships, develop confidence and get the opportunity to learn new skills. Plus, there’s a great sense of achievement at the end of your shift looking at the amazing difference you’ve made. It’s fun, free and good for your mind and body. You will help make someone’s day just by weeding, mulching and pruning. The teams are small and you’ll be fully supported.

No gardening experience is needed to be a volunteer, just a willingness to help and be reasonably active. There are free training sessions, expenses are reimbursed, and tools & necessary materials are provided for you to use.

How do I apply to become a volunteer?

You will first need to complete a Volunteer Application Form and return it to Easy Care Gardening (via email or post). Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you to arrange a meeting and go through a standard recruitment process. We explain things like volunteer and client rights, workplace health and safety, and Privacy and Confidentiality. We run a police check on all new volunteers, and repeat the check every three years. New volunteers get on the job orientation when they first sign up. We offer ongoing training opportunities to all our volunteers, at no cost, as they become available.

ECG Volunteer Handbook

Special COVID-19 requirement: please note that as an aged care service provider, all Easy Care Gardening volunteers and staff are now required to be fully vaccinated. Current guidelines are set out in the following link.

How long do I need to volunteer for?

How often you volunteer is your call. Some people come for one day a year (paid volunteer leave from their employer). Others volunteer multiple times each week – and stay with us for years!  We understand that volunteering needs to fit in with the other things in your life. We appreciate every hour of volunteer time that is generously contributed.
